The passing over of Fred Roy Sr. who went peacefully in his sleep with his two sons Fred Greg and his wife Alice at his side.
Fred joined the NYC 10 years ago. He was former member of Bristol Yacht Club in the 1960’s -1970’s.
He loved Narragansett bay, and built a house on Prudence Island in the mid 1960’s. Always said Newport harbor was his favorite place to be in the world. He loved coming to the club with Alice to have chowder and a beer.
His boats throughout his lifetime were a 1925 34′ Richardson, 20′ PenYan, 26′ Nonsuch, 30′ Nonsuch, and lastly at age 90 he purchase a 30′ Mainstream. Before his passing at age of 95 one of his last request was to be driven around the harbor on the Scarlet, Nancy Roy’s boat. He did that with his oldest granddaughter Meredith.
The Roy family will miss him but wanted all to know besides his many accomplishments in his bones he was a corinthian yachtsman, from the beginning to the end.
