COMMODORE’S CORNER

Greetings fellow Newport Yacht Club members.

The new board of directors met on October 27, 2022, and we have begun the process of leading our club into the next fiscal year. Items we are working on include: updating of all committee rules and regulations, dock loan pay off, phase 1 of new sprinkler system, starting the process of purchasing and installing new IT/Wi-Fi system, and the finalization of our 2023 budget. The board approval of the proposed budget took place on November 14 and will be submitted for your review by November 20.

Please plan to attend the General Membership meeting for final approval of the budget on Thursday, December 1 at 7:00pm on the main deck.

In addition, we are in the process of transferring the responsibility of the club boat Volunteer from Float and Dock to Regatta.

The entertainment committee has some exciting events planned over the next few months, including the annual dinner at the Green Valley Country Club which was a big success! The children’s Christmas party with Santa will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 25th and we will again be hosting visitors and judges for the annual boat parade of lights that evening as well. On Saturday, December 3rd the adult Christmas party will be held.

Great job to the Entertainment Committee and NYC staff! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones from Rosalie and me.

Wishing you clear skies and fair winds,

Bob Antignano

ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE

Thank you to all who signed up for the Annual Dinner. This is an important event for our Club.

Santa will be visiting the Club on November 25th at 1pm. Come by for the fun and for a photo with Santa. It is a great idea for a Christmas card.

Laura Dargan Chair, Entertainment Committee

FLOAT AND DOCK COMMITTE

Dock Day Success

The Float and Dock committee conducted the annual fall dock day November 5. The event was well attended, and we accomplished our main task of moving all the front-facing docks into the inner marina for the winter. Thanks to all who attended. Also, a request went out to the membership to submit names to be added to the summer slip wait list. Ten names will be added bringing the total to 25.

Andy Vouras Chair, Float and Dock Committee

OFFSHORE COMMITTEE

We had the Bermuda One-Two Skippers’ Forum/Shore Party on Saturday 5 November.  The 2023 Notice of Race will be available in November and Registration will be available starting 1 January 2023.

Roy Guay Chair, Offshore Committee

FINANCE COMMITTEE

The Club year-to-date budget continues to look good overall with us exceeding the projection by approximately $74,000 through September. We were fortunate that increased costs in utilities, food, liquor and other expenses were exceeded by the unexpected increased income from transient dockage, more dues and initiation fees, and some extra income from Regatta & International Sailing. Committee chairs have been asked to watch their budgets carefully as the last quarter can quickly consume earnings due to continued and rising expenses with low income during this period.

The 2023 Budget is currently being developed with the goal of posting for review by the Bylaw requirement of November 20th. The 2023 Budget will be presented at the December 1, 2022, General Membership Meeting.
