7/13 0230 – I helped both Morning Dance and Melantho 2 into slips for the night: shower and sleep for Bob Johnston and sleep for Jack Clayton. All the boats are in now and another race is over.  Awards/party is at 1400 today at the Newport Yacht Club.

7/13 01:22:25 – Melantho 2 finished.

7/13 00:31:40 – Morning Dance finished.

7/12 20:35:20 – Samba, first to finish, finished under spinnaker that he set at 1000 and sailed with it the rest  of the day.  Morning Dance and Melantho 2 are somewhere behind.  Tristan priority was food.

7/12 1720 – Samba rounded the last mark 22nm from the finish.

7/12 0530 – Red Sky, Mark Winslow, withdrew not due to hardware problems this time.

7/12 0400 – Shandygaff, Sandy Van Zandt, withdrew.  He was around the first (non) mark and drifting and with the forecast not much better decided to retire.

7/12 0300 – Riptide, Gordon Fletcher, withdrew.  During the night Gordon had sent me a nice video of dolphins playing around the bow of his boat. He was moving at the time!

7/12 0200 – Trifion, David Paine, withdrew.  He was only at the first mark and drifting.

7/11 1909 – First Samba then Riptide called in to say that the MO(A) buoy was missing and that they are doing a navigation rounding. Tristan sent me a picture of Riptide just ahead of him but showing very light winds. Took 7 hours for the lead boats to get to the first mark 27 nm. Short course may have been a good idea after all. Earlier I was worried that there was going to be more wind than predicted and that the boats would finish way early.

7/11 1200 – All 7 boats started. Samba was the only boat to put up the spinnaker at the start and he walked away from them all.  The wind was light out of the NW, sunny and they had an outgoing tide. The race committee boat made it out to the starting line with 10 minutes to spare due to a missing anchor.  Thanks to the following that helped on RC: Ned Anderson, Jeff Spranger, George Crocker, Kristen Wenzel and her friend Donna and Roy Guay.

7/11 0900 – Skipper’s meeting.  All 8 skippers showed up including Mike Millard who had  to withdraw due to a back problem.  The short course was assigned; 118 nm due to the predicted light winds.
