Cliff Mitchell Family Trophy:  Vamoose sailed by Bob and Geoff Manchester
New England ShortHanded Ocean Racing Trophy:  Not held in year without the Offshore 160 Race.

Summary –
7/31 1700 –
Around 60 people joined in the Awards at the Newport Yacht Club.  32 boats had started and all 32 boats finished.  A nice improvement on last year!  The slowest boat in the fleet got second in the solo spinnaker class. Ken Read and Suzy Leech on Alchemist were first on correct time in Class 1, Tristan Mouligne and Ted Winston on Samba were both physically and correct time first in Class 2, John Manderson and Stuart Colie on Kismet were first on corrected time in Class 3, John Corbishley and Winthrop Sanford on Kitty Hawk were first on corrected time in Class 4 and Murray Beach on Meridian was first both physically and corrected time in Class 5 the solo spinnaker class.
Thanks to:
Race Committee Boat: Peter Jencks, Roy Guay, Caryn Cummings, Roger and Jane Fontaine.
Duty Desk: Pat Clayton, Alyce and Bill Croasdale and Rosa Tysor.
The General Manager Rudy and staff of the Newport Yacht Club for putting up with us.

7/31 0800 – Boats finished mostly between midnight and 3 am never loosing wind and strong enough that they were busy all the time not finding much time to eat.  First boat to finish was Privateer at 0019 and the last boat to finish was Windswept at 0439.  Unfortunately no one checked that the antenna cable was plugged into the VHF radio at the Duty Desk so no reports from the fleet were heard by the Duty Desk.  Sorry about that; embarrassing!

7/30 1500 – Looking at AIS it looks like Privateer Class 1 has rounded the buoy SW of Block Island, Cepheus Class 2 and Meridian Class 5 near New Harbor entrance and Class 4 around 1BI.  All boats are going around Block Island.

7/30  1300 – 32 boats started (4 had withdrawn pre start) in a North Westerly breeze that was anywhere from 5 to 15 knots.  Wind is expected to be NW pretty much the whole time and get into the 20s during the evening calming down into the teens tomorrow morning.  Unfortunately there were 3 other circles going on with a team racing circle near us and a cargo ship and big yacht anchored near us so the starting area was limited for the boats.  No incidents occurred that I know of. 5 classes started; no multihulls.  First time I can think of that multihulls didn’t race.  The courses assigned were: Classes 1 and 2 had course A (103nm), Classes 3 and 5 had course B (93 nm) and Class 4 had course C (77 nm).  All courses go around Block Island to round the buoy in the Sout West corner of Block Island.
